Swim to Code: Bridging Two Essential Life Skills
Swim to Code is an innovative program designed to equip youth with two essential life skills: swimming and coding. Recognizing the critical need for both water safety and digital literacy, Life Anew in Partnership with Swim to Code, provides students with the opportunity to become proficient in both areas, opening doors to future success in technology and personal safety in the water.

Currently, many youth—especially in underrepresented communities—face barriers to swimming due to lack of access, fear, or generational disadvantages. Similarly, the digital divide limits career opportunities for those without exposure to coding and technology education. Swim to Code addresses both challenges, ensuring students develop confidence in the water while gaining skills in computer programming that can shape their futures.
A Two-Part Learning Experience
Part 1: Swimming & Water Safety
Drowning is one of the leading causes of unintentional death, yet many young people never receive formal swimming instruction. Swim to Code ensures that students not only learn how to swim but also gain essential knowledge about water safety, survival techniques, and the importance of drowning prevention.
Through certified instructors, students engage in:
-
Basic Swimming Lessons – Learning fundamental swimming techniques to ensure confidence in the water.
-
Drown-Proofing & Water Survival Skills – Equipping students with the ability to stay safe in aquatic environments.
-
Advanced Water Competency – Preparing youth for continued aquatic learning, whether for recreation, safety, or future careers in lifeguarding or water sports.
By overcoming fear and developing water competency, students build resilience, discipline, and confidence—qualities that translate into success in all areas of life.
Part 2: Coding & Digital Skills
In today’s technology-driven world, coding is an essential skill that unlocks career opportunities in STEM fields. Swim to Code ensures students receive hands-on training in programming, preparing them for the digital workforce and beyond.
Students will learn:
-
Fundamentals of Coding – Introduction to programming languages such as HTML, Python, and JavaScript.
-
Website & App Development – Building basic websites and apps, fostering creativity and problem-solving skills.
-
Logical Thinking & Problem-Solving – Developing computational thinking through coding challenges and real-world applications.
By learning to write code and think critically, students gain access to pathways in software development, engineering, cybersecurity, and other high-demand tech careers.
